Indoor Recreational Activities

Community recreation sports and activities program play a critical role in improving physical health, mental well‑being, and social connection, particularly during Saskatchewan’s long winter months. Saskatoon has experienced significant population growth in recent years, including a large number of newcomers such as international students and internationally trained professionals. Many residents—both newcomers and long‑term Saskatoon residents—face barriers to participation in sport and recreation, including cost, transportation, limited awareness of programs, cultural unfamiliarity, and seasonal isolation.

NECOS Inc. has been delivering the Sports, Mental Health & Well‑Being Project since 2021 with funding support from Saskatchewan Lotteries administered by the City of Saskatoon. The project has created inclusive opportunities for residents to participate in community‑based sport and recreation activities that support physical activity, mental health, and community cohesion. The program is open to Saskatoon residents of all ages, genders, cultural backgrounds, and abilities, with a focus on increasing participation among youth, women, and newcomers.
